Thato "Captain Charisma" Bonokoane Sets Sights on WBO Africa Junior Featherweight Title

South African boxing champion Thato “Captain Charisma” Bonokoane is ready to elevate his boxing career to new heights by challenging for the WBO Africa junior featherweight title. Currently holding the WBF belt, Bonokoane will face Fillipus “Energy” Nghitumbwa in Windhoek, Namibia, on December 2 in a bid to add another prestigious title to his collection. The pathway for this challenge was laid out when Zolani “Last Born” Tete, a former WBO Africa junior featherweight champion, won the actual WBO belt in 2017.

Thato Bonokoane’s trainer, Charity Mukondeleli, confirmed the fight by stating that they had signed the contract with promoter Nestor Tobias. Mukondeleli believes this fight represents a significant step forward for Bonokoane’s career and could open doors to even greater opportunities. Mukondeleli also emphasized that they did not see any merit in waiting for a promised defense of the WBF title by promoter Hlula Dladla.

Bonokoane, hailing from Kagiso, South Africa, has not fought since October the previous year when he secured the WBF belt. He expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming challenge, highlighting his previous success in the WBF and the support of WBF President Howard Goldberg, who provided him with numerous opportunities to fight for the organization.

While the prospect of defending his WBF title was on the table, Bonokoane found that it was time to explore opportunities with other world boxing organizations. His ultimate goal is to secure a higher status in the sport, and with an IT specialist background, he is considering a limited tenure in boxing. With a clear plan for his future, Bonokoane is determined to make the most of his time in the boxing world, and a victory in the WBO Africa junior featherweight title bout in Namibia would be a significant step towards achieving his ambitions.

Thato “Captain Charisma” Bonokoane’s journey in the world of boxing continues to evolve, and boxing enthusiasts eagerly await his upcoming challenge for the WBO Africa junior featherweight title. This is an important step in his career, one that could have a lasting impact on his legacy in the sport.
