Sandy Ryan and Terri Harper Set for All-British World Title Showdown in Sheffield

In a highly anticipated clash of British boxing talent, Sandy Ryan and Terri Harper are gearing up for a monumental battle for the WBO Welterweight crown. The showdown is set to ignite the undercard of Dalton Smith vs. Jose Zepeda at the Utilita Arena Sheffield, promising fans an electrifying night of action on Saturday, March 23, with live coverage worldwide on DAZN.

Ryan, hailing from Derby, enters the ring with a record of 6-1-1, with 2 knockouts to her name. While she had hoped for a chance to become a two-weight World Champion by challenging Harper for her WBA Super-Welterweight World Title, she remains focused on successfully defending her own gold for the second time.

“We tried to get it at her weight but she didn’t want it at her weight so I’m defending my title,” Ryan explained. “Of course, I would have liked to have fought for her belt. I wouldn’t mind being a two-weight World Champion.”

Her resolve undeterred, Ryan is determined to bounce back from a contentious split decision draw against WBC and WBA World Champion Jessica McCaskill. Reflecting on the disappointment of not securing a rematch with McCaskill, Ryan expressed eagerness for another significant bout to reignite her momentum.

The matchup against Harper presents just that—a high-stakes battle between two British World Champions, promising an unforgettable spectacle for boxing enthusiasts in the UK.

“I think at this stage every fight is a must-win,” Ryan emphasized. “I’ve just got to train hard like I have done and be fully prepared.”

Ryan’s preparations for this pivotal bout have seen significant changes in her career, including parting ways with her previous management and training team. Under the guidance of manager Brian Peters and trainer Emanuel ‘Flick’ Savoy at the DLX gym in Las Vegas, Ryan has found renewed focus and determination.

“It’s alright being away from home,” Ryan remarked. “I’ve got a really good team around me right now and I’m happy.”

As Ryan and Harper prepare to step into the ring, their clash symbolizes not only a quest for championship glory but also a testament to the resilience and determination of female athletes in the sport of boxing.
