Eduardo 'Sugar' Nunez Eyes Showdowns with Foster, Cordina, and Navarrete

Eduardo Nunez, the Mexican knockout sensation, is on a mission to secure a title shot and punch his way to the top. Recent developments confirm that the IBF has ordered a junior lightweight title elimination bout between Nunez and former champion Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov. Promoters for both fighters have a 14-day negotiation window to finalize the terms for this showdown.

Nunez made a powerful statement with his recent victory over Oscar Escandon, delivering a second-round knockout for his fifteenth consecutive stoppage victory. The Mexican fighter had his sights set on a showdown with former IBF junior lightweight titlist Shavkat Rakhimov, as part of a title eliminator tournament.

However, Nunez has his own ideas about his next opponents. In an interview with DAZN’s Claudia Trejos, he expressed his desire to face WBC junior lightweight titlist O’Shaquie Foster and IBF champ Joe Cordina. Foster recently defended his WBC 130-pound title with a spectacular 12th-round knockout against Eduardo ‘Rocky’ Hernandez. Foster’s intention is to take on Cordina, provided Cordina secures a victory against Edward Vazquez.

Eduardo Nunez is co-promoted by BXSTRS and Matchroom Boxing, which also represents Cordina and Hernandez. Matchroom Boxing is actively exploring the possibility of signing Foster.

If an in-house title shot proves elusive for Nunez, he still has an intriguing option in an all-Mexican showdown with Emanuel Navarrete. Navarrete, the reigning WBO junior lightweight titlist, is a three-division champion promoted by Top Rank and associated with BXSTRS. Navarrete’s upcoming title defense against Robson Conceicao in Las Vegas could set the stage for a captivating showdown with Nunez.

Nunez spoke of his admiration for Navarrete, making it clear that he would be more than willing to step into the ring with his fellow countryman.

Eduardo ‘Sugar’ Nunez’s journey in the world of boxing is one to watch, as he sets his sights on multiple championship-caliber opponents, with his heart set on becoming a top contender in the junior lightweight division.
