`Will Joseph Parker Get His Revenge Against Anthony Joshua?
Joseph Parker is eyeing a chance to avenge his loss to Anthony Joshua. The former WBO heavyweight champion is on a resurgence and believes he’s earned another shot at Joshua after rebuilding his career.
Parker, 32, faced a tough period six years ago when he lost his world title to Joshua in a unification bout and subsequently lost to Dillian Whyte. Despite bouncing back with six wins, his performances were shaky. A split-decision win against Derek Chisora and an 11th round knockout loss to Joe Joyce in 2022 seemed to spell the end of Parker's career as a top contender.
However, Parker made smart choices, fighting lower-level opponents to adapt to trainer Andy Lee’s style. The results have been impressive. Parker recently defeated former WBC champion Deontay Wilder and top contender Zhilei Zhang. This resurgence has earned him the number three contender spot by The Ring magazine, behind Oleksandr Usyk, Tyson Fury, and Joshua.
Parker is eager to face Joshua again. “There’s a lot of people that want to fight Anthony Joshua. I feel like with what I’ve done I can be in a position to fight him,” he said.
Joshua, 34, is also in the middle of a career rebuild and has been linked to a fight against interim IBF titleholder Daniel Dubois. He recently hinted at upcoming fight news on social media, stating: “Nearly finished my negotiations for my next fight. Feeling motivated.”
Meanwhile, Usyk is set to rematch Fury in Saudi Arabia. If the IBF title becomes vacant, Parker hopes to be in the mix to fight for it. “You never know how things are going to unfold, so we’ll see,” he said.
Parker’s resurgence and determination to avenge his loss to Joshua make him a compelling figure in the heavyweight division. With big fights on the horizon, the boxing world will be watching to see if Parker can secure his revenge.
