Padraig McCrory, a boxer from Belfast, celebrated an “Irish invasion” after his impressive victory over the home favorite Leon Bunn in Frankfurt, securing the title of the new IBO world light-heavyweight champion.
In the early rounds, McCrory displayed his dominance over his German opponent, sending Bunn to the canvas twice within the first three rounds. Throughout the bout, ‘The Hammer’ exhibited his power in both hands, making a significant impact on the highly-rated Bunn, who experienced his first defeat on his home turf.
The fight came to a thrilling conclusion midway through the sixth round when McCrory landed a powerful short right hook, sending Bunn to the canvas for the third time. The referee, Jorge Milke, promptly stopped the contest, determining that Bunn had endured enough punishment.
Despite being the away fighter, McCrory enjoyed tremendous support from a passionate group of traveling fans who filled the Fabriksporthalle with their enthusiastic cheers, creating a vibrant and noisy atmosphere throughout the match.
