About

Dan Azeez, the British professional boxer, has achieved a remarkable feat in the light-heavyweight division, becoming the sole British fighter to hold all of the prestigious British Boxing Board of Control domestic titles. Since 2021, he has proudly held the British title, followed by the Commonwealth title in 2022, and the European title as of March 2023.

Azeez’s journey in the sport began during his time at Essex University, where he pursued a degree in Accounting and Finance. As an amateur boxer, he honed his skills under the guidance of Gordon Charlesworth at the Colchester-based amateur boxing club. His dedication and talent shone through, earning him over 60 contests and three crowns as the ABA South of England champion. In 2013, Azeez achieved a significant milestone by clinching victory in the prestigious Box Cup tournament held at London’s Alexandra Palace.

Making his professional debut in December 2017 against Daniel Borisov at the Brentwood Centre in Essex, Azeez left a lasting impression with two knockdowns and a dominant points decision win. This marked the beginning of his ascent in the professional ranks.

On 20 July 2019, with eight professional fights under his belt, Azeez faced a significant challenge, competing for the vacant Southern Area title on the undercard of the Dillian Whyte vs. Oscar Rivas event, broadcasted live on Sky Sports from The O2 Arena. In a display of prowess, Azeez controlled the fight from the outset, causing noticeable swelling under the left eye of fellow Londoner Charlie Duffield. As the rounds progressed, Azeez’s power became increasingly evident, leading to the referee stopping the bout while Duffield’s corner threw in the towel.

Continuing his winning streak, Azeez secured the vacant English title on 14 December 2019, outpointing the previously unbeaten Lawrence Osueke over ten rounds at the Brentwood Centre.

Azeez’s path to greatness took him to new heights as he earned a coveted shot at the vacant British light-heavyweight title, a momentous occasion showcased live on Sky Sports. On 20 November 2021, at The SSE Arena, Wembley, Azeez delivered a remarkable performance against Hosea Burton. With relentless aggression from the first round, he dominated the fight, culminating in a stunning seventh-round halt. A powerful left hand trapped Burton in the corner, unleashing a barrage of punches that prompted the referee’s intervention, crowning Azeez as the new British light-heavyweight champion.

Dan Azeez’s journey is a testament to his unwavering determination, skill, and triumph in the world of professional boxing, solidifying his place as a force to be reckoned with in the light-heavyweight division.
