Jesse James Rodríguez Franco, born on January 20, 2000, is a prominent American professional boxer who has achieved success in multiple weight classes. In April 2023, he secured the WBO flyweight title, and in 2022, he previously held the WBC super flyweight title. As of September 2022, Rodríguez is highly ranked in the world of junior bantamweight boxing, standing as the third best by The Ring, second best by TBRB, and fourth best by Boxrec. In his amateur career, he also won a silver medal at the 2015 Junior World Championships.

Rodríguez’s journey in professional boxing began after an impressive amateur career. He won two U.S. National Youth Championships (in 2015 and 2016) and the 2016 U.S. Junior Open Tournament. Internationally, he earned a silver medal at the 2015 Junior World Championships.

His professional debut was on March 10, 2017, against Mauricio Cruz, which he won by unanimous decision. By the end of 2019, Rodríguez had amassed a 10-0 record, with six victories ending in stoppages.

Notable fights in his career include a win against Marco Sustaita in February 2020 and a first-round knockout victory over Janiel Rivera in September 2020. He continued his success with a knockout win against Saul Juarez in December 2020.

In late 2021, Rodríguez was scheduled to challenge Esteban Bermudez for the WBA (Regular) championship, but the fight was canceled due to lack of approval from the WBA. Instead, he faced Jose Alejandro Burgos on October 16, 2021, winning by a fourth-round knockout.

Rodríguez’s career reached new heights when he signed a promotional deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing. He stepped up to the super flyweight division, winning the WBC USNBC flyweight title on February 5, 2022, against Carlos Cuadras. In a last-minute change, he replaced Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and won the fight by unanimous decision.

Rodríguez defended his super flyweight title against Srisaket Sor Rungvisai in June 2022, winning by an eight-round technical knockout. He then faced Israel González in September 2022, retaining his title through unanimous decision.

In October 2022, Rodríguez made a significant decision to vacate the super flyweight title in order to compete in the flyweight division.
