In an electrifying turn of events, undefeated junior welterweight sensation Richardson Hitchins is set to take on former title challenger Jose ‘Chon’ Zepeda in a blockbuster bout that will headline a thrilling DAZN show in Orlando, Florida on September 23. This event promises fireworks, with a welterweight unification clash between the lineal/WBC/WBA champ Jessica McCaskill and WBO titlist Sandy Ryan also on the card.
Originally slated to face Montana Love, Hitchins, the Brooklyn dynamo and 2016 Olympian for Haiti, had been building intense anticipation for a showdown with Love since joining Matchroom Boxing last year. Their rivalry reached a boiling point after both fighters appeared on the same November 12 show, where Hitchins triumphed with an eighth-round knockout of Yomar Alamo, while Love endured a hometown nightmare, suffering a fifth-round disqualification against Australia’s Steve Spark.
Hitchins then showcased his skills with a dominant win over unbeaten John Bauza in New York City, only to see the Love fight postponed due to Love’s injury. With the matchup never resurfacing, Hitchins decided to forge ahead with his promising career.
Facing Hitchins is the resilient Jose Zepeda, a top-rated contender whose three career defeats all occurred in title fights. Zepeda, a southpaw from La Puente, California, experienced a minor setback in a 2015 WBO lightweight title challenge due to a fluke injury. Nevertheless, he rebounded with an eight-fight unbeaten streak, including a narrow points loss to Jose Ramirez in their 2019 WBC junior lightweight title clash. Zepeda will be training under Manny Robles as he seeks to revive his career against the talented Hitchins.
As if that weren’t enough excitement, Jessica McCaskill, the former undisputed welterweight champion, is ready to roar back into action after her undisputed title was splintered by the sanctioning bodies. Her quest to regain at least one of her old titles comes courtesy of the fearless Sandy Ryan, the English sensation who claimed the vacant WBO title in a thrilling victory over previously unbeaten Marie Pier Houle. McCaskill and Ryan have eagerly embraced the idea of a multi-belt unification showdown, and now, the stage is set for their explosive clash.
But the excitement doesn’t stop there! Middleweight contender Austin ‘Ammo’ Williams and junior welterweight prospect Orestes Velasquez will also grace the DAZN undercard in separate bouts against opponents yet to be finalized. With the stage set for these thrilling matchups, boxing fans can expect an unforgettable night of action in Orlando.
